New Altar Guild
Members Needed

While we are all the Lord's servants, there are many that do very important work behind the scenes!  Perhaps you noticed a change in the hangings in the sanctuary or wondered who sets the appropriate page in the Eucharistic Book?
The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary for worship prior to services on Sunday, weekday services, weddings, funerals and other special services. The Altar Guild is also responsible for changing altar hangings, cleaning and pressing linens, and tidying up after services.
The Altar Guild is looking for four or five additional members to join the team.  This ministry is on a volunteer basis, and as your schedule permits. No experience is necessary; the Altar Guild leader will train you in all the skills required over a short training period.
*A Working Manual for Altar Guilds*, by Dorothy C. Diggs, writes that in the early days of the church, the duty of caring for the altar and sanctuary was the concern of the priests and attendants.  In many parts of the world, nuns perform these services, but for some years, a specially chosen group  known as the Altar Guild takes on these tasks.  We do not know when the transition from priest and helpers took place as Altar Guild work is a "house keeping" service.  Possibly the transferal of responsibilities took place when the  clergy became highly involved in another important duty, spreading the Good News.
Service at the altar is fruit of a loving devotion.    Please consider volunteering your time and efforts to the Altar Guild.
Judy McLarty, President of the National Altar Guild, shares this daily prayer:
May we have open minds to listen to each other -- compassionately.
May we have warm hearts to love each other -- wholeheartedly.
May we have strong hands to serve our Lord -- devotedly.    Amen
