As many of you have probably heard, the Fund Raising Committee is spearheading what we hope will be a major fund raiser for the church this October.  We have invited local artisans and crafts people to rent sales space in the parish hall and foyer for the day of October 19th for Saint Philip's first annual Harvest & Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair.
There will be many other activities surrounding this event, including a table with donated items including handcrafts from church members, a bake sale, holiday wreath and garland (pre-sales), brooms, children's crafts, fruits of the garden for sale (pumpkins, etc.), a food concession for shoppers and guests, and many other supporting activities.
The members of the Fund Raising Committee have been laying the groundwork for this event and recruiting artisans and crafts people through mailings, personal recruitment, word of mouth, etc.  During the month of September, you may notice a representative of the committee in the foyer after church with a sign-up sheet for various volunteer job opportunities to help out with the Fair. You may also receive a phone call asking if you would be willing to help with a part of this event.  We hope you will be able to join in the effort and the fun, it should truly be a very worthwhile event for St. Philips.

Small Dinner/Fellowship Groups for Fall 02-03
Sign up now….
We will once again have fun getting to know each other better as we meet in each other's homes in small groups for food, fellowship, and fun.!
There is a sign-up sheet in the church foyer for all those wishing to join the dinner groups for Fall 02 thru Spring 03.
Everyone interested must sign up--we are starting a new list. So even if you participated in the past groups, you must sign up again!
These dinner/fellowship groups are
for everyone--newcomers, old-timers, couples, singles, and families. If you missed out last year, now is your opportunity to find out
what you missed! If you are new to St. Philip's this is a wonderful way to become better
acquainted. For long time members this is a way to expand your circle of friends. We will meet in each other's homes to share a meal and an informal evening together.
There will be four dinners--one in
October-November, and three more between January and July 2003. You may choose to host one of the gatherings or to be a guest only. The format of each get-together is left
to each group to decide. In the past some
dinners have been adults only and others have included children. Some dinners have been "themed" (such as a Halloween party or an Ethnic meal). Usually everyone brings a dish to share.
So sign up now to join in the fun. The first groups will be announced in the October newsletter. If you have questions or comments, contact Sara DeRouchey.

Workshop on Islam

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We have chosen the Episcopalian Christian vision of the world because of its endearing qualities. So too, we should look at the qualities of the Islamic faith that has endeared that faith to so many people in out world. Part of the American experience involves living as neighbors with
people of the Islamic faith, so it behooves us to learn about the faith of our neighbors. To encourage interfaith dialogue, there will be a one-day workshop at St. Mark's in Santa Clara on October 5th 10:00-3:00 p.m. To sign up or get more info call or e-mail Barbara Rice
