Help Needed

St. Philip's needs an Acolyte Director, to assist and encourage and help train our acolytes.  We have not had an Acolyte Director for several months, and while many acolytes have been very dedicated in their continuing ministry, we need some help.  Youth from 4th grade and up are also welcome to join our Acolyte Ministry.  Please see Fr. Martin for more information or to express your interest.

Vocare-Young Adult Ministry

A new organization is coming to the El Camino Real Diocese to minister to young adults!  Vocare is an international organization that administers retreat weekends, and a new chapter is beginning in El Camino Real.  The name Vocare comes from the Latin word "to call."  The movement is very similar in mission and design to Cursillo and Happening/Search.  But where Cursillo is for those aged 30 and over, and Happening/Search is for kids in high school, Vocare covers the age gap and is open to those between 19 and 30.
Throughout the weekend, participants listen to testimonials and gather in small "family groups" to discuss God's call in their life.  Through this process, Vocare seeks to help each individual listen for God's unique call in their life.  Vocare gives participants a method to develop their spirituality and to live and share their faith with others.  The weekend begins on a Friday night and ends on Sunday afternoon with a festive Eucharist.
Vocare of Northern California (based in Sacramento) and Vocare of California (based in San Francisco) are actively helping the El Camino chapter get off the ground.  San Francisco had their first weekend in January 2003, and it was a great success!  These three Dioceses are working together to establish a Vocare support network with each other.  They hope to work in harmony by combining staff and support for each weekend conducted in the area.
The first Vocare weekend for El Camino Real is May 2-4, 2003 in Scotts Valley at St. Philip's church.  For more information, or to register a young adult you know for the weekend, you can contact Geneve Huxley.  If you are interested in helping this great ministry get off to a good start by helping with set-up, cooking, or clean-up tasks on the upcoming May weekend, please also contact Geneve.  For more general information on the Vocare movement, visit the website at www.vocare.org.

Vocare is Coming to St. Philip's!

Vocare was attempted in the diocese last year, but it was cancelled due to lack of staff and help. You can help be a part of the solution so it doesn't happen this year!
The retreat will be held the weekend of
May 2-4, 2003. Vocare is much like Cursillo, but for the young adult community. It's a spiritual retreat weekend where young adults can explore God's call in their life.
There are many needed to help this work. A
Head Cook, some Cook's Assistants, drivers, set-up crew, and clean-up crew. For Head Cook, you must be available from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, and the job can be shared--one or two people. ). Total number of people to plan for is estimated at 30-40.
A Cook's Assistant is a smaller time commitment, and will be part of a group of people assisting the head cook to prepare, set-up, and clean-up for one particular meal (or more if you want to!).
Vocare also needs help with transporting staff between the San Jose airport and Scotts Valley on Friday afternoon and Sunday evening. We also need help with set-up on Friday between 12 noon and 6PM (or whatever fraction thereof you can afford), and clean-up on Sunday between 3PM and 6 or 7PM (or any fraction thereof). Volunteer for both or either one. Volunteer the whole time, or only part of it. . Clean-up will also include some vacuuming.
If you can help out or would like to learn more, please contact
Geneve Huxley at , or call . Your help in getting this ministry off the ground is much appreciated!
