Letter from the Vicar

(Continued from page 1)

We as a congregation are in large part children and youth. We have an excellent Children's Sunday School, led by Julie O'Brien and many dedicated teachers. All of us need to engage and support our ministries with our children. And our Youth Ministry, now with Sally Arcarese and Carter on staff for Senior high and Middle School respectively, is significant and growing. Not only do we need to support this ministry with funding (see elsewhere on the Budget) and prayers, we need to listen to our youth and all our visitors, for they can help us to focus St. Philip's on real experiences of daily living and community concerns, which are the mission field Jesus came preaching about.
Many other areas of our mission together were affirmed as well, from congregational initiatives in fund-raising and community service;  music highlights (Claire Mills joining the music team, Music Committee meeting regularly, and Shelley's hopes to be more involved with our youth program); and on to our gardening as "outreach and evangelism"(Tina Grubbe's words). We thanked Sara DeRouchey and Rob Mills for their good work on the Bishop's Committee these past three years, and Karen Krestensen for her dedication as Bishop's Warden (especially during the Sabbatical). And we elected Bruce Clift and Francis Honey to serve on the BC. Delegates to Convention were also elected.
Finally, Sunday at 10 a.m. we baptized an infant, Christopher Wagener, who with his family will soon move to Tracy. They go on from here as part of the Body of Christ and of St. Philip's, and they blessed us with the reminder of why we are here, Sunday by Sunday, why we pledge and pray and work as a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real (see Matthew 28:18-20).
So, dear friends, how are we doing?  How is God calling us?  How shall we charge ahead in mission?

Martin
