Middle School News: Made In God’s Image

So it’s been a very busy few weeks for our Middle Schoolers, and we now ramp down our curriculum in anticipation of the Holiday season.  Our class has been studying Images of God, and will soon transition to the topic of being Made in the Image.

We’ve also been looking at the topic of Materialism, at our 24 Hours Diocesan retreat last weekend in Carmel at All Saints Church.  This was the first time I was honored to lead a diocesan event and it went very well due to our very well brought up children.  The theme of materialism will also appear in the Nov. 21st  Parent meeting #2 for parents of Middle Schoolers, as part of the Rite-13 curriculum.

I have tried in the past to study the season of Advent with our class during that season but it seems to be Christmas Pageant season at church so I will leave Advent up to the families to conduct at home.  Each St. Philip’s family will be provided with a cool nifty Advent calendar (distributed in the Foyer on Nov. 28th).

For December, therefore, there will be NO SUNDAY SCHOOL AFTER DEC. 5; WE WILL RESUME  CLASSES JAN. 9TH.  Jan. 9th class will be a very long one and I’d like to keep the kids after church to continue the class.  Parents, please bring something for us to eat!

Upcoming Diocesan Events:

Feb. 4-6 Snow Trip #1 Sierra Summit.  This annual event is fun and games for all who can get up the mountain!  We make it possible for everyone to have a grand time: practiced skiers to novice snowboarders to those who just want to see snow.  All are welcome!  Canon Jan organizes this one.  More or less!

Feb. 18-20 Snow trip #2 Dodge Ridge.  Still subject to final confirmation, this weekend is about cheap and easy skiing and snowboarding.  Pencil it in!

Feb. 25-26 National 30 Hour famine.  A terrific nationwide event that raises money to feed the hungry. More on this as it gets closer.

Love and blessings on you all,

             Carter Potts, Middle School Coordinator

Sunday School Christmas Events

On Sunday, Dec. 12, from 4:45 to 6:45 pm, join us in the Parish Hall for Christmas Carols & Tree Decorating! Bring your Christmas cheer, treats and voices to share in a celebration of the Lord’s birth as we enjoy fellowship with each other whilst decorating a tree and singing lots of our favorite Carols. All ages welcome!

The date for the Children's Christmas Pageant has been set: Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 6 pm. Vicky Granger-Jones has a new script called Maximus Mouse’s Christmas Card. Come enjoy this Christmas Pageant performed by the children of St Philip’s, followed by cheese, crackers, cider & cookies!!!

We also had a quarterly Sunday School teachers meeting Sunday Nov. 21.
