High School Happenings

This month I urge kids and parents to clear your calendar for a special weekend sponsored by the Diocese. Bring a friend. If your schedule seems tight, pray and ask God’s assistance. I know from experience that making time for a wonderful weekend retreat like this only gets harder as the demands of life creep upon us. Let us remember the parable from Sunday School of the man who sold all he had to buy the field where he found a valuable treasure (the kingdom of God).

Also, this month, a hands-on entrance to Sunday School. Come and See. Also, Louis Arcarese speaking on the latest drugs available in Santa Cruz County.

Happening

What's Happening?! Happening is fun. Happening begins by making no assumptions about what you believe. At Happening, people explore faith in Christ with other young people. We talk, sing, dance, share, learn, and laugh. You will be accepted for who you really are by a bunch of people who aren't afraid to be themselves. You will meet teens looking for good answers to issues you face in life and you may find some yourself! Happening is led by teens who have already "happened" and want to share the experience. Clergy and other adults who are young at heart help, too.

Happening will be held at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 514 14th Street, Paso Robles. The Weekend starts Fri., Oct. 22 at 6:30 pm (after dinner) and ends on Sun., Oct. 24 about 3:30 pm following Closing Eucharist. Because of the nature of the retreat, participants need to plan to attend the whole weekend. Parents, family, and friends are invited and encouraged to attend the Closing Eucharist.

What are young people saying about Happening?? . . .

· "Meeting people, having fun, and learning about Christ all in one."

· "What other people think of you is less important than what you think of yourself and what God thinks about you."

· "It was a much more profound experience than I expected. I didn't expect for it to change my life, but it did."

· "The first time that I have felt God."

· "Happening is the most amazing thing I've ever been to. Everyone should experience it at one point or another."

Who can attend? All teens in grades 9 through 12 of High School are welcome!

How do I sign up? Get an application from Sally and mail it with $70 ($35 if requesting financial assistance) by Oct. 15 or $75 afterwards. While we are able to accommodate late registrations, we encourage you to send your application early so that we are able to pre-plan our groups and activities. For further information, please contact Lee Blankenship or Betsy Schoenstadt.
