and Cows

You might look at the title of this article and think ‘huh?”  If you were part of St. Philip’s 3 years ago, though, you may remember that the members of the Sunday School raised over $1500.00 for the Heifer Project .

Special

Acknowledgment

The congregation of St. Philip’s would like to express its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Sally Arcarese for filling the vital position of Senior Youth Director for the past three years.

With unwavering faith, strength, kindness, and love, Sally has helped guide our senior youth through the challenging, exciting, confusing, and amazing transition into adulthood.

Thank you so much, Sally, for your good work, dedication, and devotion to these wonderful and precious young adults—what a tremendous gift you are and have been to them and to our church!

“How come there’s a forbidden fruit,

But not a forbidden vegetable?”

This amazing charity, which started with a farmer from Iowa in the 1930’s, promotes sustainable agriculture in the USA and throughout the world and has helped millions of people with their community building projects.

St. Philip’s children & youth will be invited to participate in the Heifer Project’s “Read to Feed” program.   This sponsored reading event is great for encouraging kids to read and fosters self-esteem and a sense of community, as they realize how their efforts as individuals can significantly impact the world around them.  For more info on Heifer International, please visit http://www.heifer.org/

The amount raised is not as important as the participation.  We will be running this program from Sunday June 12th through Sunday September 4th.  All participants will be recognized with incentive stickers and an end of program beach party.

During the summer, our Sunday School will look a little different as we will be combining the age groups into one class.  This is an opportunity for older children to develop their leadership and mentoring skills and for the younger ones to benefit from positive role models.  For all involved, it is a time to explore God’s word with an emphasis on faith, responsibility, fun and the outdoors.

Our theme for the summer is:

Loving your neighbor as you love yourself!

Jesus tells us that this one of the two most important commandments and it ties in well with the work we will be doing with the Heifer Project.  Julie O’Brien and Vicky Granger- Jones have been brainstorming away and have come up with some awesome ideas for activities over the summer: boat races, stuffed animal picnic, Milagro cross, Morris dancing, drama, collage making, friendship bracelets and much ,much more!!

Summer is a great time to come and work with the Sunday School; please contact Julie O’Brien if you would like to volunteer to help staff our summer projects.
