Diverse Talents on Display at Young Musicians RecitalMany thanks to all the youth members in the music recital of October 9th. We heard the youth choir perform Rogers and Hammerstein’s Edelweiss, Ian Mitchell’s Lord’s Prayer and Kyrie. Jessica played Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag. Julia and Olivia, the two newest members of our congregation, treated us to Little Liza Jane and Snowflake Rag, respectively. Hannah played J. S. Bach’s Prélude; Tim, A Neat Beat by Martha Muir; Chris, Sonatina Op. 55 (1); and Jonathan, Solfeggietto by C. P. E. Bach. Dancers Hannah, Hannah, Lauren, Serena, Seth, Chris, Jonathan, and Michael exhibited new millennium dance styles to the German folk ditty Have you Ever Seen a Lassie.
If you’ve never seen a lassie, laddie, and most of St. Philip’s youth “go this way and that,” make sure to join us for the next performance of the young musicians at St. Philip’s including: Gillian, Katie, Rachel, Garrett, Mitchell, William, Serena, William, Hannah, Jessica, Jonathan, Kelsey, Olivia, Julia, Hannah, Michael, Katrina, Andie, Brett, Seth, Hannah, Tim, Lauren, Marissa, Chris, Jonathan, James, Savannah, David, and Emilie! Our musicians are branching out with flute, recorder, guitar, and drum accompaniment. Small groups will play for us during communion and offertory as part of their music ministry. Fruit of the SpiritA Learn It - Live It Bible Study You are all invited to Group Bible Study at the home of Vicky Granger-Jones. There are few better ways to grow faith than to study the living Word of God in a safe and supportive environment. During these group meetings, we'll study relevant Scripture passages and discuss thought-provoking questions. Jesus doesn't tell us to simply learn about him, he asks us to become like him in thoughts words and actions. In these studies, we will not only be challenged to learn more about God, but to put into practice what we've learned in a powerful and meaningful way. Whether you're new to Bible study or a seasoned pro, you'll find each lesson interesting, compelling and providing opportunities for growth. The nine-session Bible Study focuses on Galatians 5:22-23, the fruit of the Spirit. The Christians in Galatia were confused about their faith. Error had crept into their teaching, and the church was becoming more legalistic. Paul wrote to the Galatians to call them back to the gospel of grace. Paul passionately urged the Galatians to live a life of freedom in the Holy Spirit rather than to fall back into the practice of living by the law. This Bible Study shows us how Living by the Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit and help us to explore these qualities in our own lives. We will be meeting on occasional Mondays; participating in the whole series would be great, but each study can stand alone. Mark your calendars and try to come when you can! |
