March 20, 2006 Bishop’s Committee Meeting Summary Susan Seaburg gave an update on the Search Committee. The committee is doing eight phone interviews starting March 20. All the phone interviews will be completed by the end of the month. Susan said they have good candidates so far. Bob O’Brien reviewed the financial reports. Bob reported February was a good month, although 25% of pledges are in arrears. General expenses including utilities are a big concern as the costs have increased. Bob stated that our Fair Share to the Diocese is now $2,800.00 a month which is an increase from $2,333.00. It was voted and approved to waive paying the Fair Share for the month of March. Bob expressed great concern about the finances for the church. He said the pledge base is barely covering costs. He stated at this time there are no funds for the traveling costs for the Search Committee and the moving costs for a new minister. It was decided to do a pledge drive to cover these costs. Bob and Bill DeRouchey will submit a proposal for the next meeting. Susan Seaburg agreed to write an article for the newsletter explaining the need for the pledge drive. Mardi Jensen gave an update on activities in the office. Mardi said Vicky Granger-Jones, Father John, and herself are working on a new directory for the congregation. The new directory should be ready by the beginning of April. Mardi reported we now have a new cleaning crew working every Saturday from 8am to 12pm Mardi reported that she and Karin Clift are working on facility use guidelines for all the different groups that use our facilities. Mardi submitted updates from the Office Suites, Garden Tour, Acolytes and the Music Directors. Father John submitted his Letter of Agreement. The Bishop’s Committee voted to approve the Parsonage allowance. Barbara Lyon reported the Fire Marshall inspected the church and we received a list of updates needed by April 3rd. Barbara met with several members of the Bishop’s Committee to begin work on these items. Bill DeRouchey and Vicky Granger-Jones are looking into options for fixing the kitchen stove and oven. Bill will get a quote on fixing the stove. Barbara submitted a facility check list that members of the Bishop’s Committee will use to inspect our facilities during the week. Barbara stated the piano in the Sanctuary will be returned to its original owners. Debby and Steve Dodds will be lending their piano to the church. Bill DeRouchey reported all the rentals but one have been rented. He stated there may be a possible renter interested in the final unit. Bill noted the church still needs to complete upgrades to the rental units. Barbara Lyon gave the members of the Bishop’s Committee a handout prepared by Tod Connor asking each member of the Bishop’s Committee to sign up to be a liaison for the various committees in the church. Bill DeRouchey reported that Sara DeRouchey is stepping down as the Refreshment Coordinator for the church. It was noted that Sara has done a wonderful job and will truly be missed. Father Bill Kelly noted that we need to clarify what the “Fair Share” is for the members of the church. We need to explain what Fair Share is for, and what programs and missions it supports. Annie Warr agreed to research this and submit an article for the newsletter. Vicky Granger-Jones stated the next Bishop’s Committee Offsite Retreat will be May 6th at Community Covenant Church. The Reverend Britt Olson will supervise the retreat. The next Bishop’s Committee meeting will be April 17th, at 7pm Submitted by Mardi Jensen, Office Manager. |
