Three Cheers for the
Work-day Volunteers!

The work day and soup lunch were both tremendous successes!  We had a wonderful turn out of more than 20 people!  Some came at 9am and stayed till 3pm others fit us into their busy Saturday schedules for an hour or two.  EVERY PERSON'S CONTRIBUTION WAS IMPORTANT !!!

We were able to do all the Fire Marshall’s requests and much more! (sorry about the door stops being  removed from fire doors, it was the Marshall’s request.)  We , cleaned, cleared, dusted, replaced, repaired, removed, weeded, trimmed organized, measured & rearranged, reinforced, rebuilt and addressed an enormous number of items that needed doing!!!

Thanks also goes to all the people who brought a delicious assortment of soups, breads and desserts!!!   Best of all we began with a prayer and ended with smiles and the thought that we should do this more often!  Please, come join the fun on our next Work Day some time in June!

Again, thanks to all,
Barbara Lyon

Starfish House Drive
Successful

Thanks to the generosity of many members of St. Philip’s, the “Starfish House” drive was completed on Easter Sunday. Just over the $2000 goal was raised.

This assures that, within 6 months, a desperately poor family in Haiti will move into their own new small house. The title to the house and the land will be given to the woman of the family.

This entire operation is handled by Food for the Poor, Inc. They obtain the land and build the houses in villages where they also provide the other necessities of life: food, sanitation, schools and medical care. In the 28 Caribbean countries in which they operate, Food for the Poor has waiting lists of many, many thousands of families who hope for this kind of help.

For St. Philip’s members, this was a wonderful opportunity to reach out and provide help for the poor where it is desperately needed. We can be very proud of our effort. And maybe we should do it again next year.

St. Philip’s 2006 Garden Tour and English Tea Luncheon

The 4th annual St. Philip’s Garden Tour and English Tea Luncheon is scheduled for Saturday, May 13th.  We have the gardens lined up, including two charming neighboring gardens in Felton, Love Apple Farm in Ben Lomond, a creek-side garden off Glenwood, and a true collector’s garden on Weston Rd.

We will need lots of volunteers from the congregation to make the Garden Tour the big success it's been in past years. On the day of the tour we will need docents for the gardens, people on the front desk to take tickets and check reservations, people to sell raffle tickets, sell garden art and plants, etc.

On the day before the tour we will be setting up the tables in the parish hall and on the patio and decorating for the big event. There will be plenty of jobs to do that day, and the more people who can help, the faster it will go.

Then there's clean-up afterward. It usually goes pretty fast when we have lots of helpers to clear tables, wash and dry and put away dishes. We definitely need one or two persons to be in charge of that.

Those of you who helped last year and in years past, can count on being called to serve once again. Please do say "yes." We need everybody's helping hands and abilities to make this work.

If you see any jobs listed above that you would especially like to do, please contact Karen Krestensen.
