Senior High Update

We had another great time at ETC (Episcopal Teen Community) over the hill at St. Jude’s Cupertino Friday April 21.  This is an awesome group of senior high schoolers that we meet with and we always have a terrific time.  We’ve been doing this a few times now and we’re very appreciative of our warm welcome.  Next month it’s May 19th, place TBA.  If you’d like to attend, log onto the ETC Santa Clara website and download a permission slip.  Bring $5, a friend and some junk food dinner money, we meet at 6pm at the St. Philip’s parking lot.  We usually come back between 10 and 10:30pm, drop off at home is available.

IN THE WORKS:
Apparently, our Diocese of El Camino Real is very impressed with this style of youth ministry and has proposed the formation of 5 Regional Youth Councils, one of which would be responsible for youth activities in the Santa Cruz area.  St. Philip’s is blessed with a number of people who care deeply about youth ministry and may be interested in participating in this Commission.  The Youth Advisory Committee will be meeting soon to decide whether St. Philip’s will support this new structure, or choose to continue to be a part of the Santa Clara ETC group.

If you have any opinions, feedback, or any desire for more details, please let me know, or contact your Bishop’s Committee representative.

CELEBRATION OF MANHOOD AND WOMANHOOD

APRIL 23, 2006

Following a wonderful feast Saturday night in the parish Hall, our wonderful 7th and 8th graders rocked the congregation Sunday morning with their wonderful music during the Offertory and 2 communion pieces.  Adding to the excitement was Scott Peden, a bagpiper especially brought in to celebrate this exciting day. We love the way this congregation supports youth ministry; thanks are also in order to:

On Parenting

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of
Life’s longing for itself.

They come through you but are not from you,
And though they are with you,
yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love, but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies, but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them,
But seek not to make them like you,
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
As living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
And he bends you with His might
That His arrows might go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness:
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
So He loves also the bow that is stable.
