It is Time to Celebrate the Summertime Heroes !!!

Text Box: 7

Did You Know?

Every five years, canon law requires a written evaluation of diocesan structure,
programs, ministries, and the ways in which adopted objectives have been met.
This evaluation is carried out by the Diocesan Evaluation and Structure Committee (DESC).  This evaluation is ongoing at the moment and DESC will present to the Standing Committee Convention:

· Their evaluation of the current model.

· Three structure alternatives with organization charts with pros and cons.

· Three or four funding alternatives, with pros and cons of each structure alternative.

· Transition plan details – to new structure, if adopted.

The three structure models that DESC has proposed are loosely called:

· The “Customary” Model – this model has clear lines of authority and responsibility, but has the flexibility to accommodate talents of the new bishop.

· The “Shared” Model – this model tries to clean up ambiguities, make sure our structure is in line with national canons, and provide appropriate checks and balances.

· The “Mission” Model – this model presents a diocesan hub and regional convocations; the model rests on the philosophy that mission and ministry takes place at the local/regional level.

As far as the funding alternatives are concerned, they are all within the following parameters:

· Convention delegates will be responsible for adopting the new funding formula and then for adopting a corresponding budget.

· One goal is the maximize the number of congregations which can meet their Fair Share.

· Each budget formula is based on current year income, not a previous year’s income.

· Each model preserves the role of bishop, canon, administrator and supporting staff.

These proposals were put forward in final draft on August 1 and final decisions will be forthcoming.

We all owe a Big Thank You to all the people who gave of their precious summer time to work at St. Philip’s!!!

Don Roth worked many weeks to repair, replace and renew the LONG stretch of fence bordering our upper and side property lines.  From post-hole digging to board replacement, he did it all!!

Jack Doscher worked many days to repair, patch and reinforce the doorway through which the chair dolly is moved each week.  Take a look at the newly fixed and repainted stair wall and door to the back hall.

Pamela Willmont and her husband came to church last week to clear out the weeds and dead plants in front of the sanctuary windows.  In the end the job needed a pick ax and much hard labor. What a difference it has made !!!

Tina Grubbe has worked all through the summer to weed, water and generally keep the garden going. Without her efforts most everything might be gone!!!!

Val Jackson comes down to do all manner of projects large and small.  He mows the lawn, waters, and helps others resolve problems that arise as they tackle their own jobs. Val, how are we going to manage without you???

Bill DeRouchey has been in and out resolving problems with the rental unit’s air conditioning and our kitchen

stove repair and gas lines. Bill has a plan for some of the roof leaks.  Your knowledgeable efforts make a huge difference!!

Work Day 1: Thanks to Val and Nancy Jackson, Valerie and Tim Johnson, Bill DeRouchey and Barbara Lyon!!!

Work Day 2: Thanks to Lucy Gowan, Tod Connor, Jack Doscher, Francis Honey and Barbara Lyon!!!

Through their efforts both offices have been painted, the cross now hangs on stable brass pins, several storage areas have been cleaned, the broken toilet in the women's bathroom will be replaced, the lights in the Parish hall have been replaced and several other projects have been begun.  THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!!!

Mardi has put up with a great deal of mess and confusion through this process!!!  Thank you for "hanging in there" Mardi and for the loan of your cool sliders that made moving furniture so much easier!!!

Much has been done but there are many small and large jobs left to do.  If you might have some mid-week time or other time that you could work at church, please give me a call to see if any of our projects fit your skills.  THANK YOU!!!
