September 18, 2006 Bishop’s Committee Meeting Summary By: David Sanguinetti, St. Philip’s Church Clerk Diocesan Update – Rev. Bill Kelly The Diocese is preparing for Convention which will cover the Fair Share Contribution practice, the process for choosing a new bishop, what the new bishop’s salary should be, and the possible overall restructuring of the Diocese in order to be a more effective organization. Treasurer’s Report – Bill DeRouchey The church rentals are bringing in $18,000.00 this year and will require $6,000.00 of that amount to go back into improvements on the facility. The church will maintain the street-side sign to continue building possible clients in the event of turnover. In addition, the church will be applying for a business license as a revenue-generating operation. There is concern by the Bishop’s Committee that the August pledge income is down; however we are hopeful things will get back on track when fall members return to regular service. Some additional financial issues include the beginning of salary and benefit payments for the new Vicar. There will be a review of excessive costs in janitorial and office expenses that will be reviewed and reported back on in order to bring them into alignment. It needs to be noted, that as a token of St. John’s appreciation for Pastor Mary’s service, and their support for her success at St. Philip’s, they have sent money to be placed in a separate discretionary account for her use. Facilities – Barbara Lyon The church’s business rentals will get a sign directing clients to the back stairway, a side retaining wall, landscaping on the hill alongside the business walkway, additional directional signage on the doorway into the suites, and the expansion of the church cleaning service to the upstairs area. It is important that we rally together on the church cleanup day, scheduled for 10/14/06, in order to prepare for the Harvest Fair, which is one of our biggest revenue generators. As a result of increased costs for cleaning, the B.C. will develop with Pastor Mary a Facility Use Donation Policy that will be fair to both the users and the church budget.
