I grew up a Presbyterian, though a reluctant one, having been what I considered "dragged" to Church by my father. Sunday School was not nearly as fun and interesting as it is here at St. Philip's! The last time I attended a Presbyterian Church however, was when I was married in one, some 36 years ago. Until about 15 years ago, Val and I didn't even attend Church. I didn't realize what I was missing!!

I was first introduced to St. Philip's at one of our famous Pot Lucks. Val had attended services a few times, but I was still reluctant to commit. However, food and fellowship drew me in. I found the people of St. Philip's to be warm and friendly and discovered I even knew some of you already, so I felt right at home.

I am basically a shy person, so I felt most comfortable "behind the scenes" and soon found myself in charge on Sunday refreshments. That led to other events as well as co-chairing rummage sales, the Craft Fair and Garden Tour and Tea. I have loved every minute of each of those activities. This is where I found I fit in the best.

Through the Sunday services, fellowship events, and fundraising projects, I found that my faith strengthened. It was also a wonderful way for me to get to know so many of you, and in ways that I might not otherwise have, like the special friendships I made while on the Bishop's Committee - and while working on the fundraisers.

St. Philip's is made up of so many wonderful, caring and generous people. I truly consider the people of this Church my extended family. Val and I have received so much by being a part of this Church - more than I could ever express.

We will miss you all very much, but we will come back and visit as often as we can. And of course we hope you will come visit us in Washington.
I encourage you to continue giving of yourselves in Christ's service. The rewards will be innumerable.

Glory to God, whose power working in us can do
infinitely more than we can ask or imagine:
Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen

                          Nancy Jackson

Today is our last Sunday at St. Philip's. We are moving to the State of Washington west of Seattle after living in California for 33 years. We have been a part of St. Philip's for about 15 years when services were held at City Hall.

St. Philip's has come a long way, through many changes and many faces. The path ahead for St. Philip's looks very good and looking at the path behind, we know you're headed in the right direction.

Nancy and I have found that on the path of life, it is not our destination that counts, but rather the people we've met along the way. Like the people of St. Philip's - all of you - that's what counts.

We have been hearing many grateful words for what Nancy and I have given to St. Philip's, but we are both far more thankful for what WE have received in return. Our gifts have been returned in a bounty of rewards, and that's what St. Philip's is all about. I would ask you all to continue to give of yourselves, your talents, your time and, of course, your pledging generosity.

On the path of life, lead, step aside, and make your own path such that perhaps if you've made a good path, others will follow. I trust Nancy and I have made a few new paths and hopefully some of you may just follow in those paths now. Keep looking ahead despite the cries from behind. Like Moses, many will question and doubt. Your faith will be your guide. Don't be afraid to use it and tell others of it and St. Philip's.

St. Philip's is a growing family with much more ahead to accomplish. The Church has many blessings and now you have the best one of all - Mary is truly a real blessing.

St. Philip's needs your continued support and attention. From my experience, your gifts will bring you far more in return. The feeling is like endorphins to an athlete - I don't know what they're called for good Church giving, but you'll feel them.

We don't want to say goodbye because surely our paths will cross again in the future. Take care of this building, the family of St. Philip's and it will guide you on your way for the rest of your life. We will miss the family here, but know all will be well. We are both truly grateful for our years here at St. Philip's.

Keep the porch light on.  God Bless you all.
