Stations of the CrossSt. Philip’s is the owner of a beautiful set of images created by Eliza Lindley for The Stations of the Cross. In past years, these have been displayed in the Sanctuary during Holy Week. The images are still in very good condition, however, the means used to hang them has caused damage. An anonymous member of St. Philip’s has paid to have them properly conserved and framed in such a way that they will be able to be enjoyed in wonderful condition. There are eight stations and the cost was $157 each. If you would like to make a donation to offset a portion of this generous gift, please contact Julie Edwards Levy. Your donation to this effort would be most appreciated. |
Get Moving for SpringNow that we have some great weather on the horizon, it is time to take advantage of it and get moving! Everybody knows that the keys to better health are a nutritious diet and consistent exercise, and now is the time to pump up the activity level. Even a moderate amount of exercise has many benefits, including helping to strengthen our hearts and bodies. The heart is the most important muscle we have, and it needs to be exercised on a regular basis. Exercise distributes blood and lymph to the entire body, by increasing our circulation. Weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, hiking, yoga, and bicycling help to build and maintain bone by moving the calcium in our bodies into the bones themselves. Did you know that exercise has many benefits beyond the physical ones? Studies have indicated that 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise can be as effective as most entry-level prescription medications in battling depression. And exercise can be a key to better digestion, as well as increasing the ability to get a good night’s sleep. Exercise is probably the best and cheapest way to help manage the stress in our lives—which affects all aspects of our health. And you don’t even have to get 30-40 minutes of exercise all at once. Walk the dog for 15 minutes in the morning, take a walk after dinner (enjoying the Daylight Savings change), and add a few other modest activities—it all counts. For instance, try taking the stairs as often as you can. Or park a bit farther than you need to at the grocery store—just to get a few more steps in. These little changes can really add up. Ask your doctor if there are any restrictions you need to consider, then decide which forms of exercise will be best for you. Start moving today and see how much better you feel with some exercise every day. Enjoy our beautiful weather and the gorgeous place in which we live, and get moving!
