A Message from Your
Bishop’s Committee

BC Meeting Summary

Treasurers Report -- Miscellaneous

The 2005 Audit has been delivered and will be reviewed by the Finance Committee on June 10.  The 2006 Audit is budgeted and Steve Dodds has three potential candidates for doing the job.  These auditors will be interviewed before September so we can choose the best one.

Office procedures such as processing deposits, signing checks, approving vendors and updating expense forms are being documented and refined by the Finance Committee.

The transition of bookkeeper responsibilities from Marcus Granger-Jones to Bob O’Brien is nearly complete and the financial reports are “clean”.

We need to get a secure drop slot or lockable mailbox of some sort for deposits left in the office.  Currently checks or envelopes are being slipped under the Vicar’s door.  Options are being considered.

Treasurers Report -- Budget

Pledges are short $2,000 currently.  Steve Dodds recommends sending out a pledge reminder for the summer months.  It would be a great help to us all if third quarter pledges were paid early just to keep us in the black.

Overall total income is very good.  Expenses are fine for the most part.  We will be looking more closely at those areas of the budget where we seem to be spending more than anticipated.  These include janitorial services, office copying, and the Christian education and music ministries.

Music Ministry

The committee discussed the music ministry in some depth.  Pastor Mary and Tod Connor (music ministry BC liaison) will meet in the near future to clarify the future direction of this very important work.

Mutual Ministry Review

The B.C. members were asked to consider responses to three questions:

à In terms of my own personal ministry, what is a blessing to me?

à What is a burden?

à What help or support do I need?

There was somewhat of a consensus that the people of St Philip’s are the greatest blessing we have.

We encourage all members to take a few moments to consider their own responses to these questions.  They serve as an excellent tool for self reflection and staying in touch with why we are members of St Philip’s.

Respectfully submitted,

Junior Warden, Bishop’s Committee

Summer Pledges

Ah, Summer! Lazy days, swimming pools, lemonade, family vacations, church pledges.  Ok, well maybe most of you wouldn’t automatically include that last item on the list of summer joys, but it belongs there nevertheless.  Even in summer, the church bills keep coming: water, electricity, telephone, insurance, sanitation, mortgage and more. Pledges are a promise of regular support from the congregation and the yearly church budget is based on these promises.  Please fulfill your promise to St. Philip’s by sending in your pledge each month, even the summer months, and by catching up on your pledges if you have fallen behind.

The bills continue to come at the same time every month without fail and the constancy of your pledges keeps the lights on.  Thank you very much for your support of the church we all  use and love.
