St. Philip the Apostle is a Mission of the Diocese of El Camino Real and a partner in the Santa Cruz Episcopal Church Deanery. The Santa Cruz Deanery is made up of the six Episcopal congregations in Santa Cruz county. With clergy and Convention delegates from all six churches, the Deanery is active in developing social fellowship, shared work, and mutual support among the congregations. |

In 2003, the Rt. Rev. Richard Shimpfky retired as Bishop of El Camino Real. The Diocese is currently being led by the Standing Committee, exercising Ecclesiastical Authority, with the help of an Assisting Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Sylvestre Romero, formerly of the Diocese of Belize. |

During the interim, the laity and clergy of the Diocese have undergone a process of discernment, in order to obtain clarity about the defining characteristics of the Diocese, its primary mission, the qualities and skills it seeks in the new Bishop, and about its attitudes and expectations of the working relationship, identified as “shared leadership,” between the Bishop and the Standing Committee. For keeping up to date on what’s happening the in Diocese of El Camino Real, we call attention to its web site: St. Philip’s has indicated that, as a mission, it is ready to apply for full parish status in the Diocese, and has begun work to fulfill this objective. |
